The Sharjah Western Offshore Concession is located off the Sharjah coastline covering a total area of over 1,000 km2 including the Zora Gas Field, which has established gas reserves and a ready high value market.
The Zora field comprises a tilted fault block structure, which straddles the Sharjah / Ajman territorial boundary. The structure has a closure of some 25 km2 and is fault and dip closed. The Zora Gas Field was originally discovered in 1979 with the drilling of the Sharjah-1 well which tested gas from two separate intervals at a combined rate of up to 14 MMscfpd in the Thamama reservoir. Following this the Sharjah-2 well, drilled in 1999, tested gas up to a maximum flow rate of 40 MMscfpd.
The Field Development Plan is based upon the efficient and effective draining of reserves from the surface location of the two wells by drilling horizontal sections to intersect the Thamama reservoir.
The field development plan includes the installation of a wellhead facility, lateral drilling in the wells to maximize the wellbore contact with the reservoir and tie back of these wells to the wellhead facility. A pipeline will transport the gas onshore where it will be processed and marketed within the UAE.
Production is planned to commence from the field in early 2012 at a rate of 60MMscfpd.
