Eastern Mediterranean / North El Arish (Block 6)
Block 6 North El-Arish exploration concession area, awarded in 2014, is the first offshore Concession Area for Dana Gas in Egypt. Several prospects and leads have been defined through advanced 3D seismic.
The Company commenced drilling operations on its Merak-1 well on 20 May 2019. The offshore well is located in 755 meters of water in the North El Arish concession, also known as Block 6. This block is in the Eastern Mediterranean Basin, where other world-class natural gas discoveries have been made in recent years. The well was drilled to test a Lower Miocene series of reservoirs, which the Company believes correlate to the producing reservoirs in the Tamar and Leviathan Fields in the Levant. A total of 46 meters of good quality sandstone reservoir was penetrated, but the reservoirs were wet. The well was plugged and abandoned on 27 July 2019. Major exploration potential remains in the deeper Oligocene reservoir section in Merak, as well as the Galina and Thuraya prospects. Hence the Block contains at least three other independent prospects with material resource potential.
